SGO’s Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer will include a free public gynecologic cancer education course

The Hawai‘i Convention Center is hosting the Society of Gynecologic Oncology’s 50th Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer from March 16-19, 2019. This conference is the premier educational and scientific event for women’s healthcare professionals, including members of the entire gynecologic cancer care team who provide treatment and care in the areas of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and palliative care.

More than 2,000 attendees are registered to attend. Attendees will span gynecologic oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, hematologists, surgical oncologists, obstetrician/gynecologists, pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, research scientists, fellows in training, and residents.

“As we celebrate this milestone 50th annual meeting, we are excited to return to Hawai‘i to bring together the world’s leading women’s healthcare professionals,” said Carol L. Brown, MD, FACOG, FACS, the 50th president of SGO. “The research presented here will ensure that women affected by gynecologic cancer have better access to high-quality screening and treatment that can prolong and save their lives.”

The conference will include a free public gynecologic cancer education course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019, for gynecologic cancer patients, survivors, family members and others who are interested in hearing from leading experts in gynecologic cancer research. The course will be held in Room 304AB on Level 3 of the Hawai‘i Convention Center. Registration is available through bit.ly/fwchi19.

“This education course will connect Hawai‘i gynecologic cancer patients, survivors and their families with leading cancer researchers,” said Michael E. Carney, MD, professor and medical director, University of Hawai‘i. “It’s an excellent opportunity for local community members to learn the latest advancements in gynecologic oncology.”

The SGO Annual Meeting also brings together exhibitors from a variety of medical device and service companies. An array of state-of-the-art products and services geared toward members of the gynecologic cancer care team will be on display in the exhibition area for registered participants.

“We are looking forward to welcoming this premier healthcare meeting to the Hawai‘i Convention Center, and offering an opportunity for those affected by gynecologic cancer to attend a free public educational course,” said Teri Orton, general manager, Hawai‘i Convention Center, managed by AEG Facilities.

The conference is drawing registrants from more than 40 countries, and is generating an estimated $8.5 million in statewide visitor spending. Other major medical and scientific meetings at the Center this year will include the American Roentgen Ray Society’s annual meeting in May; the National Medical Association’s 2019 Annual Convention & Scientific Assembly and the 15th International Congress of Toxicology in July; OceanObs’19 in September; and the Health Span Hawaii Summit in November. In February, the Center hosted the American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference.
