Second installment of the monthly event features double the entertainment

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Convention Center (HCC) on Oahu is doubling down on the family-friendly food and fun at the second installment of “Sunset Mele on the Rooftop,” its free monthly entertainment series, which welcomed more than 600 kamaaina (locals) and visitors to its inaugural event on July 11.

The next edition of “Sunset Mele on the Rooftop,” set for Sat., Aug. 15, will kick off at 4:30 p.m. in the HCC’s air-conditioned ballroom, with performances by not one, but two up-and-coming local bands, Kaiwi n Kaiao and Waiola.

The evening will continue with a screening of the blockbuster-animated film “Big Hero 6” at 7:15 p.m., and feature life-sized cut outs of the movie’s heroes for keiki photos before the show begins.

HCC’s in-house culinary team will be serving ono grinds from two concession stands set up in the event’s Sunset Mele Market Place. Among the menu items are fresh gourmet popcorn, hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos and bentos. Additional vendors at the Sunset Mele Market Place will be selling snacks, beverages, along with beautiful arts and crafts.

“The turnout at our inaugural ‘Sunset Mele on the Rooftop’ was more than we anticipated and we are excited for more of our local residents and visitors to take advantage of this free community event in the months to come,” said Teri Orton, HCC general manager. “For this next event, we’re enhancing the entertainment lineup and adding a second concession
