HONOLULU – Enjoy an evening of fun for the whole family at the Hawai‘i Convention Center’s (HCC) free, monthly entertainment series on Sat., Aug. 6, 2016.
Residents and visitors alike are invited to enjoy an evening of cultural activities and musical delight. This month’s edition features live performances by Ka‘eha and Waipuna, along with a special keiki hula performance and cultural demonstrations hosted by event sponsor, The Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Demonstrations include poi pounding, lauhala weaving and ‘ulu maika makahiki (similar to the equivalent of bowling) games. Themed culinary creations and one-of-a-kind handmade crafts will be available at the Sunset Mele Market Place. There will also be a special screening of “HOME” beginning at 7 p.m. in HCC’s Kaläkaua Ballroom.

The schedule of activities for the evening is as follows:
4:30 p.m. Doors open, event begins, featuring the Sunset Mele Market Place food booths, artisans and more
5:00 p.m. Live entertainment by Ka‘eha and Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award
Winner Waipuna, along with special keiki hula performances
Cultural demonstrations – Poi pounding, lauhala weaving and ‘ulu maika makahiki games
7:00 p.m. Screening of the feature film, “HOME”
9:00 p.m. Event pau (finished)
Admission to “Sunset Mele on the Rooftop” is free. Parking at the Hawai‘i Convention Center for the event is $5 per vehicle. Outside food, beverages and coolers will not be allowed, however, guests are welcome to bring low beach chairs, mats and blankets.
