Green Initiatives

Tourism is Hawaii’s leading industry and our spectacular natural setting is a major reason the islands draw millions of visitors from around the globe, year in and year out. Naturally, Hawaii’s meetings industry is committed to perpetuating a “green” environment that promotes sustainability and protection of the Islands’ unspoiled resources.

Resorts statewide, as well as the Hawaii Convention Center, are continually employing new strategies to reduce, recycle, and reuse. Energy-saving examples abound in operations, services and building design – all without compromising the visitor experience. And the objective for all is the same – to eliminate waste and lessen costs while helping to preserve the incredible beauty that makes Hawaii such a uniquely appealing destination.

The public sector has joined in this effort by introducing new policies to ensure that Hawaii will continue to be more energy efficient – primarily by utilizing its year-round sunshine and trade winds to create new alternative energy sources.

Hawaii’s meetings industry encourages corporate groups, associations and incentive visitors to embrace this eco-friendly practice. Planners should always remember that groups doing business in Hawaii will not only enjoy a rewarding and memorable meeting experience offered nowhere else, but will do so while having a minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
